City of Brasov
Brasov is the county capital city of the county by same name, in Transylvania, Romania. According to the 2011 census, it had a population of 253 200 inhabitants, one of the largest cities in the country (though declining in the past two decades because of immigration and reduction in industrial activity).The religious Patron of the city is considered to be Virgin Mary. The statue of Virgin Mary, the Black Church and the City Council are considered among its most important landmarks.
Brasov is well known thanks to the International Festival of the "Golden Stag", which is held almost every year in the city center. Brasov received celebrities such as Thomas Anders, Toto Cutugno, Tom Jones, Coolio, Ray Charles, Pink, Kylie Minogue and Christina Aguilera during this event in the past years. The winter resort of Poiana Braşov is 12 km from the city center, having a developed infrastructure for the perfect enjoyment of winter sports.
Brasov city was for centuries one of the most important, powerful and flourishing cities in the area. Due to the privileged geographical position and its infrastructure today, it allows the development of many economic activities, cultural and sporting.
Brasov is the most important city in the Central Development Region of Romania.
